Oud wood is one of the rarest and oldest essences in perfumery. It is the central focus of Oud Palao, which owes its name to the palao variety from Laos. East meets West in this interlacing and intermingling of oud wood, vanilla and rose.
Diptyque Oud Palao is a women’s perfume launched in 2015. As its name suggests, the fragrance incorporates the Middle Eastern ingredient oud, which is a richly woody ingredient that has a smokiness. The scent opens with top notes of earthy labdanum and Bulgarian rose. The middle notes are slightly gourmand, with Madagascar vanilla and rum suggesting a boozy cake, and tobacco creating bite and a smoky complexity. The base notes evoke a smoky, exotic den, with mysterious camphor, earthy patchouli, sandalwood and animalic Laotian oud as the centerpiece. Because of the strong sillage, a light hand should be used in application.
Diptyque is a luxury perfume house, founded in France in 1961. Originally, it specialized in textiles and furniture. Beginning in 1963, the brand began to formulate its own scented candles, which remains a signature offering from the name. 1968 saw the first perfume release under this brand, inspired by English traditional fragrances. It has released 51 perfumes since then.
